These are the songs the Chi Upsilon Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity will sing at the Interfraternity Sing at the University of Chicago on June 6th, 2009.
....In 2002 and 2006 and 2008 we won Best Overall Performance trophies. In 2005, we won the Spirit Cup. In 2007 we won the Quantity Cup. I have been trying to follow in the huge footsteps of Solon Cousins. The basic medley we sing and the harmonies were Solon inventions.
.... In 2009 we are shooting for the Quality Cup. Same songs as last year, more polished. And we will lead everyone in the Alma Mater, as last year's Best Overall.
....Rehearsal at House at 3:00 on June 6th, and again after Pig Dinner, just before the Sing (see www.IFSing.org). (Friday night rehearsal too anyone?) And we'll sing some other songs at the House after the Sing.
....Frank Brunner found an old vinyl recording of the Fijis singing in 1941. It's faint and scratchy, but great to hear.
..... To hear what we should like, listen to the audio of our 2002 Centennial Best Overall performance at the Sing. I still have DVD copies available. You may pick out some harmonies there that the grads know and I have not yet preserved. Help me. Have fun.
.... For 2008, we dropped my Alma Mater medley (with the Gregorian chant, swing and rap versions), and added in two old favorites- We've Not Much Longer Here to Stay, and Raise On High (Hayden Spacious Firmament) with Solon Cousin's words. See Song List below. Rick Rayfield '74

Phi Gamma Delta 2008 IF Sing

MARCH, MARCH
March, march on down the field,
Guard Delta's honor,
Never a vantage yield, but hit-hard and conquer:
Then give a long cheer for Delta's Men,
We're here to win again
Though our foes may fight to the end
FIJIS will win! (Repeat till all are on stage)

(Verse 2- sung when all are on stage, and now harmony on third line.)
Phi Gamma Delta's name means honor, glory;
Fight for her highest fame, Till we're old and hoary;
Then give a long cheer for Delta's Men
We're here to win again.
Though our foes may fight to the end
FIJIs will win! (basses- win win win)
PHI GAMMA DELTA, ALL HAIL! ALL HAIL! (Harmony is more important than shouting!)
.
.
RAISE ON HIGH(new for 2008, old favorite)
      Brothers Arise, Arise Arise
     Gather in song Arise Arise
     Remember one refrain
Until we some day meet again
     So now arise,  now arise
     Come sing (come and sing)
One song, one song for all.
Phi Gamma Delta’s Men will raise on high
A song to brothers new and men of days gone by.
For Delta land and Fiji legends olden
Provide a guiding light to us forevermore.

And all the stars that round her burn
Will glorify her name and story
Then to all be known
She publishes to every land
That brotherhood and Phi Gam men
Go on hand in hand.

LIKE RARE OLD WINE four part harmony
Like rare wine. (hold note on “rare” while lower voices come in)
Like rare old wine is friendship to me
Like rare old wine, how mellow we’ll be
So let’s get together in harmony, in harmony.

FIJI ROSE
She has those dreamy eyes of blue,
And a smile beyond compare,
Two ruby lips to greet you,
and a wealth of golden hair, (golden hair)
She wears my pin, my Fiji pin,
She's the fairest flower that grows,
She's my Phi Gamma Delta sweetheart,
She's my own little Fiji rose

WE'VE NOT MUCH LONGER HERE  TO STAY
We've not much longer here to stay
For in a month or two
We'll bid farewell to college days,
  Hail Delta land anew.
  Delta Land,  Delta Land
  Hurrah for the Royal hue.
We'll bid farewell to college days,
  Hail Delta Land Anew.

HERE'S TO GOOD OLD DELTA

So here’s to good old Delta drink her down, drink her down,
Here’s to good old Delta drink her down, drink her down,
Here’s to good old Delta for she’s hearty and she’s healthy
Drink her down, drink her down, drink her down, down, down.
Phi Gamma Delta, delta (soft)
Phi Gamma Delta, delta (growing)
Phi Gamma Delta, Our Delta we adore. (Full sound)
WIth a Fi  ji  ji ji ji   ( soft)
And a Fi ji ji ji ji     ( more)
And a Fi ji ji ji ji ji   (more)
And a Fi ji ji ji ji    (Full not shouting)
Delta (basses echo) - Delta
Delta   (bass echo)   Delta
Phi Gamma Delta, Our Delta we adore.
So here’s to good old Delta drink her down, drink her down,
Here’s to good old Delta drink her down, drink her down,
Here’s to good old Delta for she’s hearty and she’s healthy
Drink her down, drink her down, drink her down, down, down.

March March on Down the Field- repeating first verse to exit.
